James Welch (he/him) is a regenerative farmer focused on land and habitat restoration. Raised in Metro Atlanta, he grew up feeling removed from nature and its processes. During the life altering experience of the pandemic, he was awakened to the true level of our removal from the real world, and found permaculture and ecological design.
In 2022, he received his Permaculture Design Certificate from Laura Ruby through Wild Abundance. The experience sparked him to leave his life in Georgia behind and settle on Laura’s family land, a 60 acre permaculture farm in Madison County, NC. He has since been raising ducks, chickens, and sheep, as well as cultivating edible, medicinal, and native gardens there.
Along with his work at the farm, James has been working at the local garden center, The Farm Connection, since 2024, propagating native species and assisting in stream bank restoration projects through them. His heart lies in the natural world where he uses both his knowledge of natives and animal husbandry to work with the ecosystems we’re a part of.
