Cait/Caiti Maloney (she/her) grew up just north of Asheville and has lived in Boston, London, NYC, Atlanta, and Chicago since then, before returning to the mountains she calls home. Her interest in carpentry and general making started young, learning to build with her parents at home and during set construction days at school (Thanks, CJ!). In 2021 she left her job as a project manager to join the trades full time and apprenticed with the Mid America Carpenters Training Center through the UBC, which gave her the great fortune to learn from incredible union carpenters. She worked primarily in millwork installation and framing during her apprenticeship. She’s also renovated two homes, learning some basic electric, tiling, and whatever else she had to get into along the way.
Her long term plan is to grow a permaculture-minded forest farm surrounding her timber framed dream home full of handmade stained glass windows, where every migrating songbird knows to stop by and visit.
Cait embraces being a lifelong learner, and she’s currently continuing her study of Stereotomy and Timber Framing (Thanks, Pat!). She loves being on both sides of the student & teacher partnership and firmly believes that there is an infinite world of beautiful and interesting things to learn if you keep your eyes open. She can’t wait to get to know the students coming in and share some of her passion and knowledge with you!
