Buckskin

Our ancestors world wide have clothed themselves with skins. The brain-tan method for curing skins was used throughout North America as well as on many other continents.

Hide Tanning

In this class transform deer rawhide into soft, supple, wearable buckskin. Learn to scrape the hair, grain, and membrane, brain, wring, break and smoke the hide. Walk away with a finished brain-tan buckskin and an 8 page handout to review when you tan in the future.

Buckskin Sewing

Learn to stitch and sew buckskin using buckskin lacing, deer sinew and waxed linen. Leave the class with a handout which will guide you in your future stitching.

Buckskin Belt Pouches

Make a belt pouch. Learn a plethora of sewing techniques, including gussets, welts, and stitches including the running stitch, French twist, baseball stitch, blanket stitch, and whip stitch.

Buckskin Garment Craft

Learn to create patterns specific for buckskin, lay patterns out on buckskin and get guidance on stitching up a garment than will be comfortable and fit your body perfectly. Learn care and upkeep for your new buckskin garments. Material can be your own buckskin or buckskin purchased from me.
